I’m currently writing a book on Delhi ca. 1947 to 1981. It examines changes to the city’s built form through the lens of modernist planning and architecture.

Much of my academic work has been focused on the city of Benares (Varanasi) and its colonial history. I’ve written about the city’s urbanism, Sanskrit education, and colonial bureaucracy.

I teach a course on global heavy metal and am writing about music, noise, and the ethics of listening. I’m also beginning a project on the politics of heavy metal in India.
